Is the 100mbit unmetered.... Is it possible to get 45mb/sec. Iam not talking about 45mbps... I mean 45000k/sec upload....

is that possible on the 100mbit unmetered plans or not?

sustained traffic above 15mbit useually isnt allowed! the ocassional bursts of the 100mbit port are allowed.

when you say 15mbit... you mean 1.5mb/sec right?

indeed it is. right now I don't think FDC mind people using more than that as long as the network can handle it. it's only in the most extreme cases such as sustaining it for long periods of time that they will cap it.

The fastest speed you could possibly get on a 100mbit plan is 12800KBps (100Mbit = 12.5MBps = 12800KBps)

ok here is a breakdown since two of you don't know the difference between bits and bytes

10Mbit = 1.25mB/sec
100Mbit = 12.5mB/sec
1000Mbit = 125mB/sec

B = bytes

1Byte = 8Bits

or
10Megabits = 1.25 MegaBytes

I'm too lazy to type capatilizew correctly. usually I go by the common knowledge of what FDC provides. and that would be mB a second.

100 / 8 = 12.5
15 / 8 = 1.875

you could use 12.5MB/Sec if the network card can achieve it the network has enough bandwidth free, your hdd can handle it. You cannot get more.

it is theoretically possible but the odds of you ever getting that much speed is pretty much zero. I'd say that you can expect at most 4-5mB/s. your average speed should be between 1.5mB/s and 2.5mB/s.

If it's 0 why would it be a 100mbit? 100mbit can go up to 12.5MB/sec. Since it's shared though it will be hard yes, but can't it be done?

you may holpe for something close to 15-25mbits avg out.
you can hit 30 or 40mbits but you will cant keep this much.

well I say it's 0 because there is never that much open bandwidth. You also have to take into account how fast your HDD can read the info. How fast the processor can process it and how fast the network card can go.

We are basically telling you what you can expect from the 100mbit plan. you can expect around 25mbit normally, 50mbit at max and on those rare occasions where the b/w is available and your hardware can handle it 100mbit.....but like I said there is almost a 0% chance you will ever get this high.

There's a difference between theoretical values and practical numbers. You can never achieve a value exactly as ur theoretical values.

Here's a small experiment for you to do : take two pc's and connect them thru LAN on a 100 Mbps switch/router. Do a file transfer btw 2 pc's..and let me know what max speed you will get ..never ~12.5MBps (100/8)..unless you have ur whole system connected using fibre optics ( internally as well as externally).

Like Chrono said, ur hdd will be one of the bottlecks.

Mikron, in a sense you are right but if you have a healthy system and a good switch/router then it can be easily done, for example:

my Dual Athlon XP system S-ATA 133 -> Cisco 2820 Series switch -> Athlon 1700+ box hit 12.4+mB/sec you don't need fiber internally and you don't need fiber linking the two boxes, just a clean network and a good transport medium.

heheh 12.4+mB is fantastic! it is 99,2Mbit/s (99.2% nic capacity).
my peak at home (xp 2800+ 1gb and p3 750mhz 256mb) on 2x100mbit nic is 11.8mB/sec. its very good/fast enought to me, as i use it basicaly to testing and learn about servers/config/system/new programs :p

but then again your using it to learn and test stuff out, so tcp/ip is the way to go (for learning seeing how the world is based on it :nuts: )

actually i'm using some bad hardware, to just work but without one very good performance. the software is very optmized, my limmit is the bad hardware right now :hey:
