Hi. I am very new to this. I have been on hosting , then a reseller but with my host it alwyas seems to get down.

I have a growing website, (just started january 9th, 2005), and I was thinking of a dedicated server. But then i learnt something called VPS.

Now I need to know the differences with the two. I will most liekly be going for your cpanel/.whm because i know how to use them. I dont know what ssh is and things like that. This will be for my and my friends site which is also growing.
So can you tlel me the difference please?
which one is easier to manage? and something where i can learn from.?

I think I am going to go with your VDS #2 deal. Seems preety decent to me. As many as 14 free IP addresses right? so i have have 7 pairs of nameservers?

how will i configure all of the mail, and everything. or will it already be configured for me and i just login to cpanel or whm, make an account and go on with our lives. Will there be extra stuff todo?

Sorry about all these questions. Its the only way ill learn. hehe

VDS/Dedicated: A VDS is a server, shared upon other VDS customers. A server runs software, which enables the server to act as multiple servers. Its a great solution if you cannot afford or need a dedicated server, but still want to have root access.
SSH/CPanel: While CPanel is great for customer (user) use, the main WHM doesnt offer things that SSH does. SSH allows you to connect to your server, to enter in commands. I reccomend Putty (Search Google for link to download it) for SSH. Here are some basic SSH commands, which can be found at http://www.webhostgear.com/35.html. You can find more by simply searching google.
Configuration: You have to configure the server yourself. Its quite easy to do in WHM. If you need help, I, or other FDC users will be glad to help you :hey:.

I hope this helps you. If you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask. Good luck .

Thanks for the fast reply. Will be getting a VPS soon. I will consult my partner and see what he thinks
