Hello all,

I am considering purchasing an FDC dedidated server today but I am a little cautious. This server will be for a pilot venture and must support some initial business that we could encounter. After much research on the net, I have come to a decision point. This is what I have read:

FDCservers do not provide realistic bandwidth
ServerMatrix is ok
ThePlanet provides great throughput but is limited in overall bandwidth

Here's my dilemna:

FDCservers has a great price for the initial testing - No Setup fee.

ServerMatrix has 20MBps unmetered connections but they are more expensive than FDC but have heard their bandwidth outperforms FDC even at 1/5 the port connection.

ThePlanet has 2000GB of transfer bandwidth standard and their TotalControl servers are nice and able to handle a good size site. Have also read their bandwidth is good quality. However, they are more expensive than everyone else and have larger setup fees.

I want to give FDC a shot but I need a current (unbiased) speed test site / file.

btw: My bandwidth need, in the initial months, is 12 to 15GB transfer per day with 50% of it coming from .wmv (windows media) delivery.

Can an FDC server sustain this?

Thanks in advance.....

The speed test file fdc provides is accurate.

You will have no problem with 15GB per day.
I use 200GB per day :D

The speed sometimes isnt great 120-160kb/sec at most. more if you use multiple connections like a download accellerator.
Occasionally ive maxed out my 2mbit home DSL connection downloading from my fdc server.
But with many users on your server the overall data you get off the server is good. Its good value for money for what you get.

you can use 40-60GB per day without any problem :D

My server uses 10-20Mbps almost all day without a problem.

I have noticed that individual connections don't go all that fast, but if you use a multi threaded download manager you can get full speed from your server.

and as bummer posted "getting additional connectivity" so it will be more for everyone

The more bw is for web and vds segment only.
Just to add what the above said , if u keep pushing more than 10-15Mbps + bw 24/7, u will be capped down to 10 Mbps and get an email from them , switching to a higher plan

Try http://www.trek-online.com/ for a test site...

Test File: http://www.trek-online.com/paFileDB_dl/pafiledb.php?action=download&id=82

It's on a CPanel + Fedora 2 Server, one of the $149 servers (Sempron 1400 + 512 RAM + 80 GB HDD)
