View Full Version : Link your IRCd with Pirate Radio!
Pirate Radio
12-16-2004, 01:34
Pirate Radio is a Internet Radio Station that always has atleast 100 listeners connected at any given time. We currently have a channel on EF Net for chatting and will be launching our own Network on this Saturday (Dec 18th).
Our network currently runs Ratbox with Anope services. We have two leaf servers in place.
irc.pirate-radio.us - This server shows your real IP without any masking so you can show off your vHosts with a BNC or Eggdrop. We allow friendly bots to connect to this server.
vhost.pirate-radio.us - This server masks your IP as @pirate-radio.us creating a virtual vHost for complete privacy. We do not allow bots to connect to this server.
If you would like to link your IRCd to us:
You will be required to use Ratbox IRCd (http://www.ircd-ratbox.org) or Hybrid IRCd (http://www.ircd-hybrid.org). I will be happy to install it on your server for you, free of charge.
please send an e-mail to IRC-Admin@pirate-radio.us and include If you have root access to the server or if it is a shell account, processor speed, data center location and a traceroute paste to irc.pirate-radio.us and I will get back to you.
See ya on IRC!

Sorry if you see this as spamming... Not sure how though, it is in the IRC forum. If a Mod see's this as spamming, please feel free to remove or maybe consider a section to advertise irc networks housed on FDC servers.

Not much yet, we haven't really launched yet so it is mostly just a few friends and OPER's so far. I use to link to a network a few years ago and we pushed around 15gb's per month.

I don't see why you don't just link on with a half decent network, saving you the headache of having to maintain it and all :o
BTW, ratbox & Anope isn't that great to be honest. You end up missing a lot of mode flags and some of the bots (like hostserv) don't work. If you want complete support of anope, unreal is the best mix.
Not everyone likes unreal, claiming it's crap and such, but i, my self, have -never- had a issue with it. I got a network (all legit too, no warez :P) that at times has over 3000 users online w/o any issues what so ever o_O

some of the bots (like hostserv) don't work.
Both Hyb and Ratbox have a built in spoof in the conf file. If enabled, it spoofs everyone rather then dealing with setting each user who wants IP protection in hostserv. Personally I hate services, but a lot of people won't chat on any other network then efnet if you don't offer it.

We beein using Unreal for past 5-6 years.. It used to be buggy, but now the 3.2.1 version seems very stable comapred ot their previous rlses.
From my experience, ppl use Wircd for holding 4k+ users on single server without any lags and pingouts.

Not really,
We made a module for anope that let's a user go into a channel and do
!vhost some.vhost.com
it assigns it, the user is then banned from said channel for x amount of time.
We also have it so it detects "bad" vhosts, and informs them that the user must talk with a oper to get said vhost.

Currently I am having problems having a faster link to DALnet. I am willing to link an IRCd to anyone who's curently linked to DALnet or is willing to have us linked to DALnet. For the purposes of faster connectivity towards the server.
Kindly have me informed by any means necessary.

Question: why would you want to link to that network? lol
anyway I believe if you go to their webpage they have a link requirements page as well as an application. you have to apply to link and then if they deem you good enough then they will give you a trial period. if the trial period works then you will become a fulltime link. I think that also covers yourself and 2 others to become services ops. but its' been awhile since I've been on that network somaybe the policy has changed.

I don't know if Manansala is talking about the same issue that we have been having as well with DALnet, but I've opened a seperate thread as I'd like to hear some opinions: http://www.fdcservers.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=193

when i first read it, it seems he wants to link an ircd to Dalnet... but after follwoing psyx thread.. i am confussed
Anyway, if his intention is linking ircd to Dalnet...I doubt FDC will approve that, FDC got freaked out with my 6k network and you think they will approve Dalnet?
And Dalnet is very picky when it comes to linking...if i am not mistaken, i have read it either in our old forum or on WHT, a person wanted to link to DAlnet and when he mentioned FDC was the provider , they rejected his application. ( i am not trying to bash FDC..just telling yah abt a similar incident occured in past)

mikron15, why did they freak out with your 6k network? what's wrong with it?
Also regarding DALnet, yah linking to any big irc networks (DALnet, EFnet, Undernet) is not the easiest thing but my point currently is just to get FDC IPs approved to connect to DALnet IX servers as it's causing a lot of trouble to our clients ;)

The whole idea of linking to DALnet is "to gain a faster connectivity towards the server" as most of my clients are DALnet people and I've been recieving lots of reports about my server (which is under FDC) having problems connecting to DALnet. That way when I've successfully linked, my customers will not send more and more emails about slow connectivity complaints about the said network.
I hope this answers your question ChronoCross. As I can see your "lol", I hope that you understand that this is a customer relations issue and this is money matters. I sure hope I can laugh with you. Until then, I'll keep my fingers crossed to be able to find other means of solutions about this.
On another note. DALnet has been having abuse lately from an FDC server and I was informed that FDCservers does not reply to DALnet's abuse reports.
As said by the Link Test Admin, quoted "EFnet blocks a host, Undernet kills it, Undernet kills it, DALnet follows." An FDCserver used to abuse one of the three Networks, all of them cooperate with each other.
To make the long story short, I don't exactly want to link. I just need a faster connection towards DALnet and other IRC Networks to follow which lead me to "If I'm linked, I'm fast. All customers happy." This was a desperate action.

I wouldn't worry about your customers connectivtiy. I happen to have tried connecting to dalnet from at least 3 different connections. a Hawaii dsl, a illinois cable and a illinois edu and it's ALWAYS slow connecting. Dalnet after it's big fall over two years ago has never really recovered.

So it seems. In the end he wanted to link to my network, so i asked for him to fill me in on what he has, etc, but have yet to get a PM back.
A shame, i was looking forward to having another internet radio on my network :)
