View Full Version : Opteron/Xeon/dual
Hello,
1) Do you offer some xeon or opteron based solutions, with or without dual cpu's?
2) Are there any prepay discounts, and is it possible for company leasing your hosting servers to get official invoice for payment? Discounts for multiple servers?
3) Also, 1-2 years before you were offering internal ftp backup for FDC clients, very cheap. In the meantime you stopped with this and forwareded some clients to another company, I forgot its name. Are you planning to reactivate backup service? It would be useful thing, better is to use FDC than to take your outgoing bandwidth to other backup servers.
Thanks!
vps can be used as backup
no dual anything unless you choose vps option
one can build a dual opteron system rather cheap now. cpu prices on the 242-246 have dropped alot
Yes it can be built.. but what then? For me, shipping would probably cost more than server's value :)
you can buy one online in US and have it shipped to FDC or you can try contacting sales@fdc for a quote but the setup will will probably drive you towards buying one and colocating

well if you ever need someone over here to order and ship it out lemme know :D

I shipped a 60 pound server for like 20 bucks. UPS ground doesnt cost that much at all.

am not sure I remeber correctly but I think BOJMEN is not in US so UPS is not option for him
I'm from SE Europe, we have Fedex, Tnt, Dhl.. here but their prices are insane, besides the fact that this sort of equipment is also expensive here.
Thanks for the answers, I will consider those options and probably contact you further (faqall too). I would like to have all servers I use at FDC as I rougly know what can be expected here, selecting some other provider may be like a lottery :)
Any recommendations for online store which would ship server to FDC?
Ah I see. I didnt realize that.

FDC has recently started offering clients to order custom built servers from theirr H/W supplier . You can find more info over here

well i spent 270 on hardware that i was told i would own... but when i wanted to have them ship it to me when i was done FDC told me they own the hardware if you purchase it through them. so i was kinda mad i wasted 270 bucks (so i resold the server hoping they will give me the hardware i paid for)... you would be better off shipping one in so you know you own the hardware

*EDIT*
the newegg link was my suggestion for where to order parts to build your own server rather than purchasing via fdc

wow that sounds like super bullshit to me. They can't claim they own the hardware and personally I would have taken them to small claims court. if you spend 270 bucks on hardware not purchased by FDC it is yours end of story.
im not sure if you understood that. i paid fdc about 270 for a new mobo and cpu to put in a rented server. i was told i would own the hardware (in the old forums here) but now they tell me i dont. i even offered to pay a small chunk of change and they still said nope :(
Please don't start creating new subjects in the same thread

kevin, i think faqall matter is an important experience, as it very well relates to the original starter thread Q. It might be sidetracked, but it will give others on such valuable inputs.
faqall, thanks for the input. In future, i won't be refering them
Well im just trying to point out if you purchase hardware through fdc you do NOT own it! You need to make that more clear somewhere!!!

That is some valuble information but, if you were just renting the server why would you buy hardware for it?

i think basically to upgrade his server to his desired specs plus he was told he wud own those parts after discontinuing the service. So its a better option than paying DC for upgrades/setup fee and not getting anything back after discontinuing the service
It is very simple: hardware bought through FDC is not yours, if for example a HD fails, they change it for free. If you buy a drive and send it in, if it fails, all your problem.(but it remains yours... dead or alive)
