Hello,

Any 1 got any experience with shoutcast relaying on an unmetered 100mbit connection?

I am not certain how many 128kbps I can carry without getting capped....

Help, anyone?

Well, I ran shoutcast for a little while on a box I had on the IRC segment. I believe it hit about 10-15mbit with 250 listeners, at 128kbps. Not completely sure if this is right :/ I didnt save the mrtg image at the time hehe. And, also note that this was on the IRC segment, I have better luck hitting 20-30mbit or higher on the web segment with one website that I run.

I'm not sure when they decide to cap you. I had thought it was if you sustained higher than 20mbit for a certain ammount of time? But I have a website that keeps a constant 15-25, and hasn't been capped (running like that for the past 2 months).

would probably be more around 20-25mbit with that many listeners. that's about what I came out to.

So you reckon I can run 200 odd 128k streams, without any trouble?

What happens if they do cap you down? Do they email you first, is there any recourse // overage fee or are you just capped down, and thats it?

Thanks guys for your help so far...

According to FDCservers Terms of Service (http://www.fdcservers.net/tos.html), if you don't exceed 5000 GB monthly, you shouldn't worry.

5000 GB monthly = 15.8 Mbit/s 24/7

So having up to 120 listeners at 128 kbps all the time will be absolutely fine. However, if you exceed the 5000 GB transfer, FDC has the right to cap you at 10 Mbit/s.

I have needed a shoutcast server for a wile and i guess ill buy from FDC because i can get 5TB a month out of them when most hosts only allow like 1TB

100 MBIT CONNECTION DIVIDE it by the kbps it will tell you how many listeners it will hold aprox 800 at 128k

but FDC allows only average of 10mbit else they will cap your server and you cant get 100mbit, I say CAP this guy! :P

i'm not sure if you'd be able to sustain even 10 128k listeners without rebuffering... my 96k streams are ok... but transfer speeds are about 20k/s per connection at best for me on my server.
