I've been having the same problem. It's up for a few minutes and then 100% packetloss again. Been going on for a few hours now.

Yup, I'm noticing the same thing.

Hello there. Indeed there is some kind of packetloss (not 100% though, much lower) and I suspect it's related to DDoS attacks against FDC clients/network, not AboveNet problems. So let's give techs some time until they check out the issue.

We had no ping timeouts, no disconnections over here, just a bit lag (20-55% packetloss).

ShannonS

yer same just a lil bit of packet loss i am not to worried as everyone is still in school so lol

Anyway, everything looks back to normal..

Massive packet loss (52%), with packets getting dropped at 64.124.50.210.

Possibly network attacked again, lasted for 12 minutes (22:19 - 22:31 CDT). Back to normal now...

uh, seems it went down again.. both my ircds are down..

psyxakias

mrichards, negative. IRC line is fully functional since 09/Jun/2005 22:31 CDT.

the irc line appears to go down a few times a day. I'm awaiting a responce on when these issues are going to be addressed.

hellstorm, if IRC line was going down a few times a day, I'd be complaining badly. It lags a little but it doesn't go down. Currently having 20% packetloss (possibly attack again), FDC technicians are aware and working on it.

hellstorm
06-11-2005, 00:27
20% is to some location and if u dont respond to some pings to other irc servers u die.

psyxakias
06-11-2005, 00:31
20% is to some location and if u dont respond to some pings to other irc servers u die.My packetloss script is using 8 different locations to verify packetloss and all of them showed: 10/JUN/2005 18:11-18:19 CDT: 27% packetloss average (20%-36% in 3840 checks)

Anyway, it's back to normal. Generally it's pretty common IRC networks to have a little packetloss/log once a while, as they attract DDoS so nothing to worry about as long as it's not happening all the time.

hopefully the recent problems will be worked out soon as they are still getting used to abovenet I hope. Also I hope more bw is comming soon which will also help this issue.

Hi , what we have noticed with our fdc box is, bnc's tend to just lag but ircd's tend to split and dump many user's. So in other words these small dropouts are not enough to make bnc's pingout but are enough to affect ircd's. Another thing to know is just because your own stuff doesnt drop it doesnt mean there is no problem, I agree different network segments seem to be affected more then others.

Ummmm i have other boxes on abovenet threw other resellers and they arn't down accually they havn't been down in almost 2 years. So i would say its fdcservers not abovenet

Jahizzo
06-12-2005, 13:27

Jahizzo
06-13-2005, 08:01
haha is it just me? or same thing again today??

ChronoCross
06-13-2005, 08:41
perhaps if you would stop complaining about slow speeds the people dossing FDC wouldn't be able to pinpoint the exact times where it's the weakest. dontcha think? it's the same concept behind why they don't have mrtg graphs up.

Jahizzo
06-13-2005, 08:45
do you really think its ddos? No word from support...

If it is.. well yes then its stupid to post here hee

hellstorm
06-15-2005, 08:32
yeah its getting to that point. No explantions of whats going to be done about this. Tonight I have had more then 3 no route to hosts from various places and for the last 10 min could only ping to box but not connect to any ports on it.

I'm sure they are sleeping.

generaly whenever there is a network issue our techs focus on fixing it and reply to tickets later on.

But two things:

Its not DDOS?? just to confirm
And why did this happen the last days every day around the same time? Thats the weird thing. Some People were saying its ddos because of this.

Thanks for info :)

Its been ages since i have responded in here.

This outage has been indeed disturbing. Hopefully it will get resolved.. as stated by bummer.

I guess the first thing ppl would think of in such circumstances is network being DDoSed. But like some of you have mentioned in this thread.. its not wise to speak of it.. as potential attackers (cyber terrorist) use such info. to build profile of the network/servers.

As for tickets response, indeed if a network issue is on hand.. they would tend to resolve it before they reply. Many of us have face many of these encounters in the past. But we have learned from it. But its good they deal with it first and than respond later. But than again.. we can understand the fact that many of us including myself get anxious, as we have to explain to others like our clients.

But rest assured i am sure.. FDC will resolve it.

I don`t want to get into details due to network security but the recent problems have been caused due to both DDOS and hardware issues on Abovenet`s side.

Both issues are being addressed now and it is my hope it will be fixed pernamently. I know that Abovenet is implementing some filter ACLs on their core router for us tonight which should help with DDOS

FDCLuke

The issue seen tonight was not the result of a DDoS attack, however in the past DDoS attacks have "aggravated" the problem. I do not wish to get into technical details, however I can say the issue is the result of certain incompatibilities between the Cisco equipment we run and the Juniper router that Abovenet uses.

Here's the official reply that was sent out to clients who opened up helpdesk tickets regarding this issue:

The network interruptions you experienced tonight were the result of a router issue with the main transit provider for our IRC Network, Abovenet. The issue has been resolved but will most likely require some maintenance next weekend, details regarding this maintenance will be posted in the announcements area on our forums as they become available. In addition to the fixes put in place tonight Abovenet has also started filtering certain types of malicious traffic that have impacted our network in the past, this should reduce the impact of future DDoS attacks against our network.

Thank you for your continued patience.

would be nice to have the IPs that are the src of these attacks if they are not spoofed.
