I suppose also that you are using CPANEL. Can you check exim logs?
/var/log/exim_mainlog
/var/log/exim_rejectlog
Try connecting again and check your logs for any error message. Then paste it here.
Are you using authentication for your outgoing messages from your client?

Do u have any firewall in place?. If yes, have u opened the reqd. ports?
The outgoing address ( in Outlook config) shud be same as the incoming name server .
I have my bets on firewall blocking it.:D
But then, i could be wrong!:o

ive checked those logs before and theres no error message. it shows a message when it receives mail, but thats all.
ive tried it with outgoing auth and without it. still nothing.
mikron...how can i change the firewall settings on my redhat box?
btw, im using direct admin

What firewall are you using? A test you could do is to telnet mail.yourserver.com 25 from your machine in order to see if you can connect to your mail server.

one of the most common problems associated with that error is that the mail server is not configured to be outgoing as well. a good number of the webhosts I've had over the years have required me to use them for incoming mail and for outgoing mail to use the pop server of my isp. so check to make sure it's configured to be a full mail server.
